Mortgage brokers doing ‘visa’ searches in 2020

Mortgage advisers most commonly searched for ‘visa’ in 2020, data from Legal & General Mortgage Club found.

This was likely as a result of a weaker pound, more interest from Hong Kong buyers, as well as uncertainty facing EU nationals and expats due to Brexit.

The ‘maximum age’ of a borrower was the second most searched for term, followed by criteria searches for first-time landlords using a buy-to-let mortgage.

Clare Beardmore, head of mortgage transformation and operations, Legal & General Mortgage Club, said: “Last year’s top searches also highlight that despite ongoing disruption caused by the pandemic, the mortgage market remains open to all types of borrowers.

“There are clearly options for many borrowers, whatever their circumstances and speaking to an independent mortgage adviser who can help borrowers to navigate the available products should be everyone’s first step.”
